The main purpose of the position is to work as a Turner and assist as a Fitter.

DIVISION: KNITTEX

DEPARTMENT:  MAINTENANCE

Needs to have strong turning experience to enable you to: conduct, assemble, manufacture, fit and repair parts of machinery in an extrusion/knitting environment, thereby contributing to the expansion of maintenance services offered to the production team.

  • Apprenticeship as Fitter & Turner with recognised Institution (Red Seal)

APPLICATION

RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Studying and evaluating blueprint and plans of machinery
  • Grinding, cutting and shaping metal and other raw materials
  • Monitoring the fabrication process carefully and making safe adjustments
  • Working with and understanding forms, designs and patterns to determine the best materials, machine and machine settings to fabricate parts.
  • Checking assembled metal parts for accuracy and fit using precise measuring tools
  • Repairing, maintaining and operating large pieces of machinery
  • Performing maintenance on machinery, diagnosing and repairing faults
  • Reading detailed planning and/or process sheets
  • Fully conversant with reading and understanding engineering drawings
  • Be able to operate and show experience of working the following machine tools: Centre lathes, Milling Machine and Vertical Borer
  • A good knowledge of tooling used on machines
  • Fabricating or reproducing spare parts for the machines
  • Assisting the millwrights in the maintenance and repair of machines
  • Ensuring that all working machine parts are in good working condition
  • Selecting the cutting tools for machining operations using conventional lathes
  • Mounting and dismounting workpieces on/from the lathe
  • Performing roughing and finishing operations
  • Checking finished pieces to ensure compliance with technical drawings
  • Carrying out maintenance of turning lathe and tools
  • Participating in team-based root cause failure analysis discussions after breakdowns
  • Updating drawings in line with modifications and implementing an effective updating system
  • Adhering to maintenance plan and carrying out excellent maintenance practices on machinery
  • Assisting in implementing HSE practices such as preventing nip points and covering of open gears, panels or chains
  • Finding innovative solutions for improving existing maintenance systems
  • Participating in and contributing to process optimization
  • Required to live in close proximity to the workplace
  • Required to work overtime when required
  • Any other reasonable request in line with job requirements or company requirements

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be fit and healthy
  • Mechanical, engineering and technical skills
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, plans and diagrams
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of industrial machine components
  • Strong level of accuracy, attention to detail and analytical
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
  • Ability to use manual turning lathe
  • Knowledge of industrial machining techniques
  • Ability to use measuring equipment for quality control checks
  • Knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices and procedures for machine tools
  • Strong manual skills
  • Reliability, precision and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to follow instructions
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a broader team
  • Ability to handle stress in a high-pressure production environment
  • Must be reliable, organised and have a positive attitude
  • Possess good problem-solving skills
  • Code 08 drivers licence
  • Basic knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental and/or statutory regulations will be an advantage
